[Culinary Travel-Medan]: Barcode

It has been long time we did not visit Medan. As far as we remember, the last visit to Medan was 2006. So when we got assignment in Medan on 2-3 December 2013, we were happy to accept it. Two nights before our departure, we searched and reviewed various foodblogs but found that only few were actually useful including www.jenzcorner.net and www.makanmana.net. Some notes on places to be visited were taken. On Monday we plan to start early in the morning on the hope that we could catch breakfast there. But unfortunately, the flight was delayed. The traffic and distance of the city from newly built Kuala Namu International Airport made we arrive almost lunch time in the city. So we missed first breakfast for the first day.
We arrive at the hotel just few minutes before lunch time. Our client has choosen Travellers Suites for us. Eventhough it is a quite old hotel, it is centrally located. So it is enabled us to browse the city. Just in front of our hotel, there is a newly built building called "Forum 9". It is an office building cum a foods mall.  We thought that it was good to try a restaurant there. Forum 9 is a foods mall which specifically designed for cafes and restaurants. There are some  restaurants and cafes in this mall including famous Trattoria.   Others include Barcode, Opal Cafe, District 10, Harbour 9, Ta Yang Suki. These cafes and restaurant are the next generation ones because of the designed which are closed to those in Jakarta. After browsing  the mall, we decided to visit Barcode which is the busiest place among others at that time.
The menus offered by are fusion and Indonesian. For drink, we decided to have "Barcode Super Juice" which was recommended by the waiter. This is a big bottled marisah juice filled with fresh fruits. Sufficient for 4 (four) people.

The Barcode Super Juice is too sweet for us. It is not a fresh markisa juice we guess. But a bit refreshing in the humid air of Medan. For food, we decided to try both Indonesian and fusion foods. First, we order "Street Walk Fried Rice" on the hope to sense truly Madan taste and "Grilled Salmon". The "Street Walk Fried Rice" (app. IDR 30,000) served with a thin slice of ommelette, chicken curry, tomatoes and cucumber. The curry taste is very strong but overall did not look like home-made fried rice.
The presentation of Grilled Salmon was plain. Also the taste.  It was served with fragrance rice. The price was a bit expensive comparing to its taste.
